* Call-for-candidates for FNR personal grants *

Are you a researcher in Information Technology and its applications in
society and business?

Do you like working in an ambitious and dynamic research environment?
Does working in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams attract
you?

Want to live in the dynamic heart of modern day Europe? Like to mix
this with an abundance of nature, sports and culture? Keen on sharing
in the ‘savoir-vivre’ that is indigenous to wine regions?

If yes, then consider working at the IT for Innovative Systems (ITIS)
department of the Luxembourg Institute for Science and Technology
(LIST).

* LIST and the ITIS Department *

LIST (www.list.lu) is a research and technology organisation located
in Luxembourg. The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has a rich history dating
back to Roman times. Already the Romans knew Luxembourg was a great
place to live.

Luxembourg is positioned in the dynamic heart of modern day Europe.
Living in or near Luxembourg, also means living close to cities such
as Strasbourg, Namur, Paris, Cologne, Saarbrucken and Aachen, while
being surrounded by a wide range of breath taking nature parks in
Luxembourg itself, as well as Germany, Belgium and France. The Moezel
area, spreading from France via Luxembourg to Germany, is also a well
known wine region.

Next to the ITIS (www.list.lu/itis) department, LIST currently hosts
two other research departments. One in the domain of material
sciences, and one in the domain of environmental sciences.

The Luxembourg economy is predominantly a services economy, in
particular on services that are IT reliant. In this context, the ITIS
department aims to bolster the domain of services. The overarching
drive of the ITIS department is therefore “creating lasting value
through systemic innovation”, where Information Technology is used to
innovate organisations in a structural (systemic) way. This means,
ITIS researchers typically do not only consider Information Technology
as such, but also the social, organisational, and entrepreneurial
contexts in which it is to be used. Research within ITIS is therefore
inherently multi-disciplinary.

The ITIS department currently employs about 140 highly skilled
researchers and engineers from various disciplines to address
technological, organisational, human, and economic aspects of IT
reliant systems. ITIS has strong collaborative ties with the
University of Luxembourg, as well as selected Universities in the
surrounding area of Belgium, France, Germany, and the Netherlands.

The ITIS department has organised itself into three Units:
- Decisional knowledge dynamics, focussing on enabling the flow of
knowledge in organisations, involving the gathering of raw data,
refining this to knowledge and information, supporting decision making
and capturing, as well as integration and dissemination of knowledge.
- Trusted service systems, dealing with the engineering of IT reliant
service systems that are trusted in the sense of (continuously)
meeting their implicit and explicit needs and requirements.
- Service engineering with impact, concerned with research into
approaches to enable organisations to continuously innovate in a
sustainable way, where innovation can be driven by a need to
“do things better” and/or “do new things”.

* Personal grant schemes *
The Luxembourgish research funding agency (FNR; www.fnr.lu) offers
three attractive programmes for personal grants:

1: The PEARL programme targeting established researchers wishing to
develop their own research group in Luxembourg. For more information
on this programme, see:
  www.fnr.lu/calls-forms-guidelines/call-documents/pearl-2014

2: The ATTRACT programme for young and promising researchers who
already showed their ability to develop their own research activities,
and are now ready to develop their own compact research team in
Luxembourg. For more information on this programme, see:
  www.fnr.lu/calls-forms-guidelines/call-documents/attract-2015

3: The AFR-PPP programme for high potential researchers who recently
obtained a PhD, and are ready to become a PostDoctoral researcher. For
more information on this programme, see:
  www.fnr.lu/afr-phd-postdoc-grants/public-private-partnerships-under-afr

* Our offer *
We are looking for high quality candidates for the above mentioned
personal grant schemes. What we offer is to invite selected
candidates to work with our key researchers on their respective
proposal. The final research proposal will then be jointly submitted
to the FNR, and if accepted for funding, the ITIS department will
co-invest in your research activities in terms of hosting your
research activities, as well as allocating additional research
capacity to your project.

The deadline for candidates to communicate their interest is the 31st
of August 2015. In September 2015 we will select the candidates with
whom we will work on proposals. The expected deadlines of the three
funding schemes is early 2016, while a funding decision by the FNR
is expected by mid 2016.
